“Mediate First” Pledge Campaign
“Mediate First” Pledge is a campaign launched by the Department of Justice in 2009 to encourage the use of mediation as the first step to resolve disputes.
The “Mediate First” Pledge (“the Pledge”) is a non-legally binding statement of commitment by pledgees to first explore the use of mediation to resolve disputes before resorting to other means of dispute resolution, such as court litigation.
To date, over 1,000 companies, organisations/associations and individuals have signed the Pledge. Sign the Pledge here.
“Mediate First” Pledge Logo
“Mediate First” pledgees will receive a “Mediate First” Pledge logo (the “MFP Logo”) for display at their shops, outlets, and workplaces. Pledgees may also adopt the MFP Logo, without any modifications, for use on their letterhead and other publications.
The MFP Logo serves to signify a pledgee’s status as a participant in the “Mediate First” Pledge campaign. It also reflects a pledgee’s commitment to adopting mediation as a preferred method for resolving disputes and recognition of the benefits of mediation.
“Mediate First” Pledge Event
The “Mediate First” Pledge campaign was launched by the Department of Justice (“DoJ”) in 2009 to promote the use of mediation in resolving disputes. The campaign encourages individuals, companies and organisations to commit to exploring mediation before resorting to other dispute resolution processes, including court litigation. To date, more than 1,000 individuals, companies and organisations have made the pledge.
The “Mediate First” Pledge event (the “MFP Event”) is a biennial flagship event of the DoJ which aims to promote mediation, celebrate the achievements of pledgees and welcome new pledgees.
The MFP Event has also been held outside Hong Kong to extend the promotion of mediation regionally and internationally. It was held in Shanghai and Shenzhen in 2019, and in Thailand in 2023, receiving an enthusiastic response and attracting more pledgees.
